Protective coatings - end surfaces

After the PCB etching process, the exposed copper on the PCB would oxidize and impair the solderability of the components.
As one of the last steps in the production of printed circuit boards, the exposed copper surfaces are therefore coated with a final surface.
The end surface protects the underlying copper from oxidation and thus increases the shelf life. The final surface also has the task of

to increase the wettability of the connection surfaces during soldering.

The available end surfaces differ in terms of shelf life, typical application and price. However, the end surface is usually

by the further processing steps, the end product or the intended place of use of the end product.

Process technology

The final surface treatment of the different PCB variants can be integrated into the COMPACTA device series as an additional process step or defined as an individual system for final surfaces.

 

The special system technology combined with high-quality process chemicals guarantees an optimum surface finish for printed circuit boards.

 

The system design depends on the respective process steps of the process chemistry:

 

End surface as an integrated system solutione.g. direct metallization with carbon as catalyst: cleaning - catalysing (carbon) - drying - micro pickling - decapping - copper plating - final surface / protective layer - various rinsing units

 

 

Final surface as a single unite.g. electroless nickel/gold: clean - activate - electroless nickel - electroless gold - various rinsing units
